The winter Frisian sport for Christmas
What you can expect:
Boßeln – a popular winter sport in East and North Friesland and long overdue to conquer Berlin. After all, ‘taking to the streets’ has always been our speciality. Therefore, it is time to connect the group pastime known as ‘street skittles’ with the capital city. Don’t worry, we limit ourselves to roads and paths without motorised traffic.
We use special bowling balls on Tempelhofer Feld, for example, but our growing repertoire also includes public parks, wooded areas and other suitable open and green spaces in Berlin and Brandenburg.
Whimsical, simple, ingenious
Divided into groups, you go to the start and, with a powerful arm swing, get your team across the finish line with as few throws as possible.
On winding courses, beautifully green on the right and left, it’s not just about the strongest throw. Beginners in particular can achieve amazing throws with the light balls.
Tradition obliges
Of course, the appropriate ‘target water’ and ‘antifreeze’ should not be forgotten for this, which go on the journey in style in the handcart.
What goes around, comes around
Of course, every good round of Boßeln is followed by a refreshment stop with traditional kale and pinkel, a chance to warm up and reflect on the ‘heroic deeds’ you have experienced, with regional specialities such as Spreewälder Järtnerwörschde or Herta Heuwer’s curry specialities: The evening ends in a restaurant of your choice.
